The Mustang softball team traveled to Columbia Heights Monday to open the 2017 season. The team started the game with great energy and finished strong rolling past Columbia Heights with a 12-1 win.
The Mustang bats were active as they banged out 12 hits in the game. Sophomore Short Stop Chloe Palmer opened the scoring with aggressive base running as she scored the first run of the 2017 season in the 1st inning. 7th grader Olivia Parker added a 2 run base hit up the middle to open up the game in the 3rd and Junior third baseman Jayzryn Thompson broke the game open with a deep grand slam HR in 4th. Senior 1st baseman Teighan Thompson also added a key hit to plate two more runs as the Mustangs cruised to the victory.
Sophomore pitcher Katie Eickman held the Columbia Heights bats in check all game allowing 4 hits and striking out 6. She was supported with solid defensive play as the infield collected 14 ground outs.
The Mustangs next game is Thursday as they travel to Andover to play Legacy Christian.
