Mustangs News · Wayzata Hold Off Mustangs

The Mustangs Girls Basketball team traveled to number the #2 ranked team in Class 4A to play Wayzata Wednesday night.  The Mustangs, currently ranked 3rd in Class 2A clearly gave up a significant size advantage.  The Trojans of Wayzata came out and used their size early to jump out to an early 10 point lead.  The Mustangs settled in and started to increase the tempo of the game.  By halftime the Mustangs took a 36 to 35 lead.   The second half continued to be an uptempo physical game with the Mustangs holding leads late in the game.  In the final minute of the game the Mustangs were down by two and were forced to foul and the Trojans made all of their freethrows to close out a 79 to 70 final score.  The Mustangs strong performance was a team effort.  Junior Kae Seana Barth Lofton contributed 18 points.  Seniors Kylie Post and Jaclyn Jarnot contributed 15 and 11 points.   The Mustangs will use the strong performance to help them prepare to start conference play.  Their first Conference opponent will be West Lutheran Friday January 5th at Maranatha at 7:30.
